Frank and Narda Walters with Oatmeal Jack on the Shananhoah River, WV
Their quest for the catching of a carp in West Virginia began with an e-mail to the infamous West Virginia carp angler known as “Oatmeal Jack”. Oat informed them that May 4th would be the date upon which he could host them upon West Virginia carpin’ waters.
Nardas First WV Carp, luckily they just kept getting bigger
They met with Oat and a plan was finalized to meet at the Walmart in Charles Town, WV at 6 am, then to proceed to a spot on the Shenandoah River. Saturday May 4th arrived and they meet at the prearranged spat. Oat then led the way to a place on the Shenandoah River.

Upon their arrival, they noted Oats brother Brett was already hooked into a carp of decent size and fighting ability. Several minutes later the carp was in the net. This carpin’ day was looking good!
Narda get a pretty Fully Scaled Mirror and Frank and Oat just get regular Mirrors :)
They rigged up the rods and baited up with the orange flavored maize that Oats brother was using. Before 10 minutes has passed, Narda was hooked into a fish. It was a somewhat less than impressive carp of 2 lbs- 9 ozs. But, it was the Walters first West Virginia carp and the 40th state carp on their carp-caught-in list. The pressure was off, and all could settle into a day of carpin’.
The carp catching action continued at an impressive pace with Frank and Narda each bringing seven carp to the unhooking mat. Narda’s next five carp were progressively larger from 9 lbs-3ozs up to her largest of 18 lbs- 4 ozs with a length of 34 inches, qualifying it for an In-Fisherman catch and release award for carp. Her seventh and last WV carp was a nice mirror of 7lbs-8ozs, bringing her total catch weight to 75 lbs-9ozs. Not a bad nine hours of carpin’.

Franks carping endeavors fell just five pounds short with his seven carp totaling 70 lbs-3ozs. His Largest tipped the scale st 12lbs-15ozs.
Nardas big fish of the day at 18 pounds, Franks biggest of the day which, according to Narda was not nearly as big as hers!
Shortly after 3pm the rain began to fall and the Walters opted to call it a great day of carpin’.
“Oatmeal Jack” Blackford has proven to be the host with the most. The “Bonanza” swim on the Shenandoah River had produced the most numerous and weightiest state carp experience the Walter has enjoyed in their 40 state run of carp-caught-in States.
